Kettle Run is an attractive, affordable senior apartment community for individuals age 62 years or older. Located south of Bucyrus, about two miles from the picturesque downtown, Kettle Run is a vibrant community that offers a beautiful setting for senior independent living.
Like many Genacross Lutheran Services housing sites, Kettle Run has a spiritual foundation because it was developed with the support of Lutheran and non-Lutheran congregations, as well as the local community. Seniors of all faiths are welcome to make Kettle Run their home.
Features and Amenities
Kettle Run is a 40-unit apartment community that provides a home with utilities and services at one reasonable rate. Following are some of the features and amenities provided:
- One-bedroom apartments (approximately 540 sq. ft.), which include a living room with dining space; a full bath; and a kitchen with a range, sink and refrigerator
- All apartments on ground level with a patio
- Individually controlled heat and air conditioning
- Central hallway to lobby, social areas, laundry and mailboxes
- Community room and kitchen
- Exercise room
- Convenient parking and pleasant grounds
- Cable TV available (additional fee)
- Non-smoking campus
- Small pets welcome

Many services are provided to residents at no extra cost. These services include interior maintenance of the electrical, heating, air conditioning and plumbing systems, as well as exterior maintenance, such as lawn care and snow and trash removal.
A wide variety of social opportunities are made available to residents, if they wish to participate. Activities vary and may include card parties, bingo, Bible studies, lunch outings and monthly birthday parties. Check the monthly activity calendar for a full schedule of events.
Transportation is available through local senior transportation services.
Genacross is committed to helping residents age in the setting of their choice and maintain their independence. A service coordinator is available on-site to assist residents in procuring services, such as meals, home health care, and housekeeping, all of which help in maintaining an independent lifestyle.
Because Genacross develops communities under special financing arrangements aimed at encouraging senior housing opportunities, an income limit is required.
The eligibility guidelines for Kettle Run are designed to house very low-income individuals. Very low income is defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as not exceeding 50 percent of the median family income for the county or metropolitan area.
Income from all sources must be verified as part of the initial certification process. Annual recertification also is required. All information acquired is kept confidential.

Residents pay 30 percent of adjusted gross annual income. All utilities except telephone and cable TV are included in the rent. A security deposit equal to one month’s rent is required before moving in.
