Residential treatment for children and youth at the Maumee Youth Center
The Maumee Youth Center is a children’s residential center situated on 13 acres of wooded land in rural Henry County, Ohio. The Center serves up to 27 children and youth ranging in ages from 6 to 21 in three distinct units. The different unit options allow for flexibility in meeting the varying needs of the clients placed at the Maumee Youth Center. Most residential placements come from hospitalization, detention, or administrative discharge from institutional settings. Children and youth usually have significant emotional and behavioral needs that have interfered with past placement success.
The frontline staff-to-youth ratio in our intense settings is 1:2, and it can be more when necessary as outlined in individual planning, including 1:1 and 2:1 support when needed. This enables us to work with high-risk children and youth in an open setting. Our programs offer a highly structured daily routine, including teaching social skills, coping skills, and independent living skills. Community involvement is also part of the daily structure.
The Center features an on-site school, a swimming pool, a full-size gymnasium, and an interpretive exercise path. Youth also may receive routine educational tutoring or services to meet their academic goals when appropriate.
Clinical Services: Individual and group therapy
Genacross Family & Youth Services provides intense clinical services to all residents living in our group homes and the Maumee Youth Center, as well as individuals in the community. Clients receive an assessment and are assigned individual therapists based on need. Clients are seen one or two times weekly, or more as needed. Afternoon therapy groups are provided by the therapy team Monday through Friday. Groups focus on social skills, coping skills, self-esteem, teamwork, self-awareness, and other topics pertinent to our clients.
Clients may receive medication education from our on-site registered nurses. Additionally, they may receive pharmacological management from a contracted psychiatrist on a monthly basis.
